About Property Tax Guide

Property Tax Guide exists to answer a simple question with real numbers: what do homeowners actually pay in property tax in this county? Official tax rates are hard to compare because bills depend on home values just as much as on rates, so we publish the Census Bureau's median tax bill and median home value for every county and state side by side.

The site is a data reference, not a tax service: we do not calculate individual bills, sell data, or offer tax advice. Our figures come from the US Census Bureau, American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates, 2023; our methodology page explains exactly what each figure means and how the derived effective rate is calculated.

Coverage grows in batches, starting with the largest counties. If you spot an error, please get in touch with the county name and the figure in question.
